Wine tasting tour starts at 9 am and We will visit Khakheti. Kakheti has always been the center of wine making. Because of its geographical position, Kakhetian wines are distinguished by the original bouquet and taste. Historically, Georgia was the territory where wine making culture prospered. Georgia has an 8000-year history of continuous winemaking tradition, which is evidenced by numerous archaeological discoveries.
Ancient Georgian traditional Qvevri winemaking method is in the Unesco Cultural Heritage list (since 2013). Today there are over 500 grape species in Georgia, a greater diversity than anywhere else in the world. We will see the Bodbe cathedral (4th century). The monastery was built on the tomb of St. Nino who introduced Christianity in Georgia. Next to Bodbe is the city-shelter Signagi which is one of the oldest towns in Georgia. People call it The Great Wall of Georgia, because its fence is up to 4 km. Located on a steep hill, Signagi overlooks the vast Alazani Valley, with the Caucasus Mountains visible at a distance.
Our last and very important stop will be at the Wine tunnel at Winery Khareba. An 8-km tunnel winery under a mountain, where we can taste wines (not included in the price, available for extra 15 lari) and hear the history of Georgian wine. Visitors can buy high quality and prize-winning Georgian wines, honey, grape seed oil and traditional Georgian churchkela.
